The Vanished Podcast
Marissa Jones covers the story of Zyanya and her disappearance in Episode 458
Zyanya Valora, a 21-year-old woman with autism, was reported missing on June 25, 2024. She left her home located on the 11100 block of North Ventura Ave in the Mira Monte area of Ojai, CA, at approximately 2 a.m. on 6/25/24, and has been missing since. Zyanya is an at-risk dependent adult diagnosed with autism. She was last seen wearing a white shirt, grey-ish colored shorts, and no shoes; however, today she could be wearing something totally different. She is verbal, but will most likely not converse if spoken to. Zyanya is Hispanic, 5 feet tall, 90 pounds, with black shoulder-length hair, brown eyes, and a mole underneath her left nostril. She also has a mole on her forehead and a large mole on her right arm.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with VC Search and Rescue, conducted an extensive ground-and-air search from June 25th to 30th, but it did not lead to any clues of Zyanya’s whereabouts. On June 30th, the search effort was scaled back significantly. Scent-tracking dogs were brought back a second time the following weekend, but were unable to locate her. Zyanya’s scent was tracked to an area near the Oak View baseball field and community center.
Sheriff’s detectives are investigating Zyanya’s disappearance, but have little to go on. A screen from Zyanya’s bedroom window was removed the day she went missing. It is believed that she used that window to exit the house. Zyanya’s last-known location was determined to be in the area of Barbara and Oakcrest Streets on June 25 at 2:42 a.m., two blocks from her home in Mira Monte where her phone connected to an open Wi-Fi network.
Zyanya has wandered from her home before. Four years earlier, in 2020, she left her residence around 1 a.m., carrying a Bible. She was found in a nearby Baptist church within a few hours.
The Valora family is offering a $50,000 reward for the successful location and physical recovery of Zyanya. If seen, please do not approach her. Remain in the area, with eyes on her, and call 911 or 805-504-1494 immediately. You can remain anonymous. If you feel more comfortable sending an email, (also anonymously) please contact: venturacountycrimestoppers.org and you can submit your tips there.
Zyanya Valora was last seen on 6/25/24 at the 11100 block of North Ventura Avenue, Ojai, CA.

the facts
Boyfriend Theory
While some missing person cases involve individuals running away with someone, this scenario seems highly unlikely in Zyanya Valora’s case. A thorough investigation of her phone revealed no evidence of communication through text messages or apps with anyone outside her immediate family circle. This lack of external contact strongly suggests that Zyanya did not have a secret relationship or plan to leave with another person.
Still Missing
Rumors that Zyanya has been found are inaccurate. Zyanya remains missing with no credible leads. We are continuing efforts to find her. Please remember that it’s important to call 911 immediately if you do see her. You can remain anonymous. Once she is located, we will update this page.
Ran Away Theory
The possibility of Zyanya running away on her own has been considered, but it’s more likely that she wandered from her home unintentionally. This theory is supported by the well-documented phenomenon of wandering among individuals with autism. Unlike a planned departure, wandering often occurs when an autistic person becomes disoriented or fixated on a particular destination, potentially leading them into unfamiliar or dangerous situations. This scenario aligns more closely with Zyanya’s known behaviors and the circumstances of her disappearance.
Possible Kidnapping
The most concerning and, unfortunately, most plausible scenario is that Zyanya fell victim to a kidnapping after wandering from her home. This theory is supported by several factors: the sudden disappearance, the lack of preparation or communication that would suggest intentional departure, and the evidence from search dogs. Tracking dogs followed Zyanya’s scent along a bike path before abruptly losing it, which could indicate she was picked up by a vehicle at that point.
